Autoimmune haematological disorders

چکیده
Autoimmune diseases affect around 5% of the population but until recently, although the pathological features of these disorders could be described, there was little idea about the aetiology. Through the development of animal models and the identification of target genes some insight is being gained into the pathogenetic basis of these complex diseases. Blood disorders in which autoantibodies are found include cytopenias (autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA), idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) and autoimmune neutropenia), in addition to coagulation disorders (eg acquired haemophilia). This article will discuss the autoimmune process in general and concentrate on cytopenias.

Current treatment regimens for haematological autoimmune diseases are relatively non-selective and are often associated with considerable toxicity. Recently, it has become clear that B cells play a key role in both the development and perpetuation of autoimmunity, suggesting that B-cell depletion could be a valuable treatment approach for patients with autoimmune diseases. This article reviews ...

In this review, we consider these more recent reports and focus on patient presentation, advances in treatment, and knowledge of underlyin...

Indeed, haemolysisrelated renal dysfunction has occurred in patients with HCV infection [1]. Our patient showed cryoglobulinaemia, bu...
